Rivka Simmons has lived in Medford for over 20 years. She paints in acrylic and mixed media. When Rivka's not painting, she practices psychotherapy and runs the program Have Your Cake and Eat It Too! A Gentle Approach to Food, Your Body and Yourself which has helped hundreds of people free themselves from the binds of dieting and body dissatisfaction. Rivka loves dogs, swimming at Wright's Pond, hiking in the Fells, and spending time with her husband and friends.
After a lifetime of inhibition around artmaking, I’ve discovered the joy in creating art. I paint intuitively, following my impulses, without any preconceived ideas or agendas. Painting has become a delicious escape as well as a powerful healing practice. It’s been a way for me to deepen trust in myself and in the wisdom of my unconscious process. It allows me the space to be messy, to explore, to make mistakes and then realize there are no mistakes.
