Biography
Mystic River Clay was created by Emma Heffern and Mandy Byrnes, who share a love of crafting and all things hand-made!
Emma grew up in Providence, RI in a family that always valued art and artists. While she never really considered herself an artist, she has come to describe baking as her creative practice. She also enjoys knitting and has dabbled in sewing, cross-stitch, and embroidery. Her favorite part of any kind of cooking or crafting is the process of creating things for - and with - loved ones. While she's always a Rhode Islander at heart, Emma has lived in the Massachusetts area for over 20 years. She and her husband, two kids, one dog, and two frogs call Medford home.
Mandy is originally from NH and grew up being inspired by her family's creativity. She acquired an interest in art and crafting at an early age, often drawing or painting with her very talented mom, and quickly learned how special handmade gifts could be. Fast forward a few years, Mandy moved to Mass for grad school, met her husband, settled in Medford, and now has three crazy kids. Mandy has been creating clay ornaments and figures for family and friends for as long as she can remember, with designs ranging from avocados and camping scenes to nutcrackers and unicorns. She especially loves trying to create custom designs based on the interests or personality of the gift recipient!
Artist's Statement
Mystic River Clay, based in Medford, MA, specializes in hand-sculpted and hand-painted polymer clay items. Our designs include reusable gift tags, jewelry dishes, and ornaments, perfect for the holidays, welcoming a new baby (or pet), weddings, and anniversaries! We're always happy to expand our designs and create custom orders. Plus, we offer local pick up and delivery. We look forward to sculpting for you!
