Biography

Cherish Springer is originally from Ogden, Utah, where they created their first adventure-driven comics at the age of 5. While "Funny Bunny" did not turn out to be a career starting endeavour, Springer chose to make drawing and storytelling a full time pursuit and got their BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Springer is now a painter, illustrator, doll maker, and math teacher.

Artist's Statement

Growing up in the desert, the ocean and its creatures have always been a source of unattainable beauty, mystique, and adventure. The power of the sea itself is both romantic and devastating. I often use imagery of ships, shipwrecks, vast landscapes, and aquatic life to support these specific narratives and emotions. Through incorporating research, I craft narratives of isolation, tragedy, horror, and perseverance. I believe these themes are most relevant to environments that are most at risk of being lost. To create my pieces, I work with a variety of mediums and techniques. This allows me to find a process that best fits each individual work.
