Biography
After almost 20 years of creating pottery, I took a leap of faith and did what most people tell you not to do: I quit my day job. I started Whimsy & Mar in 2020, and I’m so excited to be doing what I've wanted to do for so long.
I've been creating and crafting for as long as I can remember. Even before kindergarten, my sister and I spent time in "art classes" with our dad every week. He was an amazing artist and wanted to teach us at a very young age that we have what it takes to create art. I'm so grateful that he helped build my artistic and creative foundation.
Artist's Statement
I find so much joy in creating pieces that are unique and whimsical. My pieces are colorful, decorative, and textured. Most of them also have some type of message on them. I started adding “tags” to my work about 10 years ago. I fell in love with the concept of connecting with people through words and phrases. These words are sometimes inspirational...sometimes humorous...sometimes empowering…sometimes sarcastic.
Although I created only wheel-thrown pottery for many years, when I took a hand-building class, I fell in love! Of course, I still love working on a pottery wheel, but for now I will continue to create more and more unique handbuilt pottery.
