Al Hiltz has been a photographer since a very early age. His first passion was outdoor and landscape photography. He has traveled extensively photographing images in Iceland, Scotland, the Shetland Islands, and numerous points around North America. Recently, in addition to his outdoor work, he has delved into the world of abstract photography and portraiture. He just completed a course of study in Digital Portraiture under Arthur Rainville at the New England School of Photography. Al has also applied for studio space at the proposed (and hopefully soon approved), Medford Art Center. His work has been exhibited at the Griffin Museum of Photography, Concord Art Association, The Center for the Arts in Natick, and the Raimondi Gallery in Charlestown, as well as a number of other venues throughout the area. His work has also received awards from the Newburyport Art Association, and the Arlington Center for the Arts. His first solo exhibition entitled “Four Walls – Four Themes” will take place at the Newburyport Art Association this August. About his work he says “If there is one theme that I try to convey in my photography, it is to try to look at the world with a childlike sense of wonder. I try to see, and capture, the character of all things in life, whether it is the awesome beauty of a glacier surrounded by snow covered peaks, or the wisdom in the eyes of an old grandmother, or something as simple as raindrops making a pattern in a puddle, with the same level of excitement and enthusiasm”. This year’s exhibit will feature work from a recent trip to Alaska,
a number of abstract images, and a selection of some very eclectic portraiture.
