After a sabbatical year spent to take Art courses at the School of Images in Epinal (France), Dominique started to exhibit oil and acrylic on canvas, then etchings. Always an ardent traveler, he went to the USA in 1994 to teach French and Philosophy in an international school. Gradually, he specialized in landscapes made with relief printing techniques and watercolors but he kept using photography as a visual travel log. His works do not describe particular places but the ideas related to them. They can be found in private and public collections in France, the USA, Canada, England, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Brazil, Japan, and in various galleries in France, the USA, and Canada.

Après un congé sans solde d’un an passé à suivre des cours d’art à l’Ecole de l’Image d’Epinal (France), Dominique commence à exposer des huiles et des acryliques sur toile puis des gravures sur zinc. Il voyage aussi beaucoup et en 1994, il part aux USA pour enseigner la philosophie et le français dans une école internationale. Il se spécialise peu à peu dans la représentation de paysages en gravure en relief et à l’aquarelle mais il continue à utiliser la photographie comme carnet de voyage visuel. Ses œuvres décrivent moins des lieux particuliers que l’idée qu’ils évoquent pour lui. On les trouve dans des collections privées et publiques en France, aux USA, au Canada, en Angleterre, en Norvège, au Danemark, en Suède, au Brésil, au Japon et dans plusieurs galeries en France, aux USA et au Canada.

Statement/Déclaration

I am drawn to the American West by its immensity and its colors. It is the American dream with its pioneers, Indians, wild and rebel nature, the scent of adventure and strangeness that still inhabit it, especially in the huge national parks. The East, more civilized, keeps vast chunk of mystery with its lakes and forests as far as the eye can see and its typical coastal landscapes. In the South, warmth and casualness. In the North, vast and rugged expanses. Cities are a permanent spectacle with theirs big buildings and colorful crowds. Sometimes, a detail is enough to show everything.

L’Ouest des USA m’attire par son immensité et ses couleurs. C’est le rêve américain avec ses pionniers et ses indiens, sa nature sauvage et rebelle, le parfum d’aventure et d’inconnu qui l’habite encore, en particulier dans les grands parcs nationaux. L’Est, plus civilisé, conserve pourtant des pans entiers de mystère avec ses lacs et ses forêts à perte de vue et ses paysages côtiers typiques. Au Sud, soleil et nonchalance.
