I am trained as both a fine artist and a graphic designer. I received a BA in art from Macalester College in St. Paul Minnesota , and an MFA in Graphic Design from Mass. College of Art. Over the years, I have experimented in ceramics, drawing, painting and printmaking. I was a private student of a figurative painter for close to a year, while living in Florida. For a long time I was doing fairly realistic-impressionistic oil paintings and pastels, but this process later gave way to drawing quickly in pastels from life, outdoors. Over the past 10 years that style has evolved into the use of other media, such as watercolors and nontoxic printmaking/collage. Most recently I have been abstracting forms and colors to create simple designs, yet with surprising results. I begin with a simple line drawing, then turn it into a cut-paper composition, with geometrics or simpler shapes, and then progress into a silkscreened-like style. In other words, my hard-edged graphic sensibility has finally found it’s way into my fine art! I have exhibited in galleries, cafes and shows in Boston, Somerville, Cambridge, Arlington, and Medford (including the West Medford Arts Festival, 2003), as well as other towns. For the past 15 years I have worked in the Boston area as a Graphic Designer. My work has been used in such venues as Cd, book, and magazine covers, and many other projects for many different, eclectic clients. I have just started circulating my new work at local galleries/craft shops such as Blue Cloud gallery in Somerville and have recently become active with the Concord Art Association.
