A resident of West Medford, Maureen Sonnie creates in clay and stained glass. Working in low-fire earthenware, she creates single hand-carved relief tiles and relief mosaics, small sculpture and functional work. She also does some garden sculpture and housewares in mid-fire stoneware. Her stained glass work is largely copper-foiled window art and three dimensional glass pieces. Maureen creates at Two Paws Studio, her own work space, also located in West Medford. Maureen is one of the co-founders of WEST MEDFORD OPEN STUDIOS. She is a columnist and regular contributor to the Medford Transcript’s monthly Arts Page. She has studied American women’s contributions to pottery, sculpture, clay work, glazing, methods of decoration and china painting, and has discussed women’s contributions to clay as an invited speaker at Lesley University and to community arts groups. The compilation of her research, is called Women in Clay. She hopes to have her book published some day. Photographs of her work are shown here and more extensively on the Two Paws website, www.twopawsstudio.com.
