Statement
Nearly every day I see a scene that I would like to paint. Some
images stay in my mind for a long time and I am so happy when I can get
a chance to put them down on canvas. I trained in fine arts at Boston
University, where I received a BFA, studying studio art and art education. Although
my current employment as a school psychologist appears verbal, I spend
a considerable amount of time watching and thinking about what I see. I
am primarily a visual person and a visual learner. Painting is a
good way for me to use these skills without the use of language.
When I paint, I think about the colors in the light, and how they relate
to each other. I try not to mix paints on the palette. Rather,
I imagine all the colors that go into another color and mix on the canvas
as I go. There is something very joyful about pure colors, of a field
of grass, a sand dune, and the blue sky with clouds. I usually find
time to paint on vacation, where I do sketches, watercolors and take photos. I'll
create a larger piece at home from these.
