Will Tenney

Bio
“Pictures need to evoke a personal reaction with the viewer,” says Will Tenney, a book designer by trade.  “I try to make my pictures call up a taste, a sound, a memory, or even to suggest a story or pose a puzzle.  I believe photographs should go beyond the factual depiction of a scene or an object—there should be a connection between the viewer and the image.”

Although he acquired his love of photography from his parents, both photographers in the San Francisco Bay Area, Tenney got his formal training in graphic design and photography at the Rhode Island School of Design.  He has lived in Medford since 1994 with his wife, book designer Susan Gerould, and their two cats.

He loves to travel and always takes a camera.  In addition to images of nature, he has produced images of Cuba, France, Italy, Spain, and many parts of the United States, including his own back yard.

Tenney’s work has been shown in the West Medford Open Studio event for several years, the Doc Kountze festival, the Medford Arts Festival, at The Gallery @ The Chelsea City in Chelsea, and at the 13FOREST Gallery formerly in Medford Square and now in East Arlington.  His work has appeared in many educational textbooks, some of his images of France were featured in the Boston Globe Sunday Travel section a couple of years ago, and in December 2006 a piece of his work was prominently featured in the Sidekick section of the Boston Globe. In 2007, the Bank of America purchased 48 of his images for use in some of their Boston area offices.
