![]() ![]() ![]() Walter Prince (1938-2010) We are saddened by the passing of Walter Prince in August 2010. Walter was a long-time participant and a great friend of West Medford Open Studios. Over the years, hundreds of visitors have been charmed by his wonderful creations of blown glass. Our thoughts are with Walter's family and friends. Biography Born in Malden, Mass in 1938. One of 11 children. Attended Malden public schools. Joined the A.S. Air Force in 1957 served in Alaska before it was a state, and Okinawa. Worked at a lot of different jobs from research at MIT to a car wash in Denver and hard rock mining at Climax, Colorado. Quit regular work at 59 years old to pursue glass blowing. Statement Walter Prince's original glass designs are hand crafted by the artist. Working at a large glass furnace,in Cambridge Mass, Walter skillfully sculpts one piece at a time using recycled color whenever possible and making no attempt to make two pieces alike, each becomes its own hand-blown work of art.
